    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a UTM parameter? ▾
A UTM parameter is a tag added to the end of a URL, like ?utm_source=newsletter. When someone clicks the link, analytics tools such as Google Analytics read those tags and tell you which campaign, channel and ad the visit came from.
Which UTM fields are required? ▾
Source, medium and campaign are the three you should always fill in. Content and term are optional: use content to tell apart two links in the same email or ad, and term for paid search keywords.
Can I build UTM links for several URLs at once? ▾
Yes. Paste one URL per line and the builder applies the same UTM tags to every line. Each generated link gets its own copy button, and there's a Copy all button for the whole list.
    Are UTM values case-sensitive? ▾
Yes. Google Analytics treats Newsletter and newsletter as two different sources, which splits your reports. The "Lowercase values" option is on by default to keep things consistent.
What happens if my URL already has query parameters? ▾
They are kept. The builder adds the UTM tags alongside existing parameters and keeps any #anchor at the end. If the URL already has a UTM tag with the same name, it gets replaced with the new value.
Should I use UTM links on my own website? ▾
No. UTM tags on internal links start a new session in Google Analytics and overwrite the original source of the visit. Use them only on links that point to your site from somewhere else: emails, ads, social posts, partner sites.
Is my data sent anywhere? ▾
No. The links are built in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
